Classic Tomato Sandwich

Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices bread white, whole wheat, or sourdough
  • 1-2 large ripe tomatoes
  • 2-3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
Optional
  • Butter for toasting
  • Fresh basil or parsley
  • Chili flakes or hot sauce
  • Lettuce

Method
 

  1. Slice the tomatoes into medium-thick slices.
  2. Toast the bread lightly if you want a crisp texture.
  3. Spread mayonnaise evenly on the bread slices.
  4. Layer the tomato slices evenly over one slice.
  5. Sprinkle salt and black pepper on top.
  6. Add optional toppings if using.
  7. Cover with the second slice of bread.
  8. Cut in half and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use ripe, juicy tomatoes for best results
  • Add salt just before serving to avoid soggy bread
  • Lightly toasted bread holds texture better
